Once the documents and application are successfully submitted, the application and documents are viewed and a preliminary credit and criminal background check are completed. If the applicant clears the initial screening and is selected for testing, the applicant is emailed a testing date. Charleston Police Department, to expedite the hiring process, conducts condensed testing, where the applicant takes part in the Physical Agility Test, Written Exam, Interview, and Polygraph in a three day period. On the first day of testing, the applicant will additionally submit his/her background questionnaire and complete the polygraph questionnaire.
